Each of Mark's images is printed through the original slide by photographic methods (not "ink-jet") on high-quality photographic paper to ensure the highest quality print possible. Mark works directly with a professional lab and is the final authority on every print produced. Mark's creative process occurs 100% behind the viewfinder of his camera before the shutter is ever triggered. Once he releases the camera's shutter, the final image has been made. The print you see has been printed to match Mark's original slide as closely as possible. Once painstakingly printed to Mark's complete satisfaction, the images are then mounted on 3/16" Foam Core. ( Fifty point art board is used for the 8 X 10 and 11 X 14 matted size pieces as some smaller frames will not accommodate 3/16" thick mount boards). Each mounted print is then double-matted, as seen above, using either Black-core Arctic white over light blue or Light beige over cognac, whichever color combination is most complimentary to the image itself. Mark then hand-signs each one. The larger, 24" X 32" (matted size) pieces are Limited Editions (usually limited to 750 or fewer) and are also numbered as well as signed. All images are sold only as shrink-wrapped matted prints. Framed pieces are only available at art shows. As you browse, you will notice the symbol "© Mark J. Thomas" appearing in the lower right-hand corner of the larger images. This is for copyright notification purposes on the Web only and will NOT appear on your prints.
Mark assembles many of his original images into beautiful Triples. Much care and consideration goes into the selection of images used in each Triple. Each must be an excellent image unto itself while also carrying the underlying theme or unique story of the Triple. The placement of each photograph within the Triple is just as important as the selection of the images. Composition, shape, form, color, and Mark's own personal experiences while photographing each subject, play important roles throughout the entire selection and assembly process. This personal attention to detail is what makes each Triple special and a joy to view. Once all the selection and assembly decisions have been made, the individual images are mounted on 3/16" Foam Core and double-matted in the same color combinations used for the Individual Matted Prints ( Black-core Arctic white over light blue or Light beige over cognac ). Mark then hand-signs the final image in each triple. Triples are available in two sizes, 8" X 28" and 14" X 34." They are also available both horizontally and vertically.
Each 5" X 7" (folded size) blank Natural Selection® Note Card is printed in the U.S.A. on high-quality recycled paper made up of at least 50% total recycled fibers and 10% post consumer waste. They are coated with a special aqueous coating which allows them to be recycled. The back of each card contains an accurate, interesting, and informative interpretive paragraph designed to heighten people's awareness of the natural world around them. Please be aware that due to the limitations of computer monitors, the true quality and sharpness of Mark's images cannot be equaled on the web. If you have seen Mark's work at an art show, then you know that he prides himself on sharpness, clarity, and attention to detail. If you have not seen Mark's printed work, you will be pleasantly surprised when you receive a print ordered from this web site as its quality will far surpass that which is possible to achieve on the Web.
